0. Keynote: Future-proof your media
(One Session)
Find out how the Internet and the Global financial crisis have hasten the change of the media landscape and how the international media are coping and changing to meet the challenge.
1. Developing Your Website
(Two Days)
Learn how to design and develop a functional, attractive Web site. You will create a home page on the WordPress content management system. You’ll learn how to link pages, format text, use images, create and format tables, work with frames and enhancements and create navigation bars. This workshop will do more than teach you how to employ gadgets and tools; you will learn basic design principles and how they affect usability and traffic. Much of this session will be hands-on with participants working with their own content. At the end of the session, you will FTP your completed files to your own WordPress account.
2. Web Content that Connects
(Two Days)
Learn to make the most of tools to connect with others on the Web and improve your Web content. You will learn to set up a blog and RSS feeds and connect with others using Twitter, Facebook and other social networking tools. Topics include how to optimize your content for search functions, linking to other content and measuring audience usage. Much of this two-day session will be hands-on with participants applying these tools to their own Websites.
3. Photos on the Web
(One Day)
Learn how to correct and crop digital photos and prepare them for the Web using Adobe Photoshop. You’ll learn to work with layers, correct red eye, save time with batch-processing and create title slides. Importing, saving and archiving photos will be covered as well as how to avoid copyright violations. Pick up tips on how to shoot better photos, edit them and record audio for a slide show. Participants who bring a selection of digital photos to class should have them on an external hard drive, a thumb drive or a CD.
4. Graphics on the Web
(Second Day Session)
Beginner designers and developers new to Adobe Flash will learn key elements of how Flash works and how to use it in a personal or professional Web environment. You will learn how to work with graphics and text, how to create and edit symbols, how to add animation, video and sound and how to test and load Flash content. Participants may bring a specific project with them to work on. At the end of this two-day interactive workshop you will be able to prepare and export your finished project for your Website.
5. Video on the Web
(Two Days)
Learn the basics of the Final Cut Pro video editing system. Topics include setup, capturing video and audio and using effects as well as editing and trimming techniques. Participants may bring their own video to edit for this hands-on course, which will be taught by an Apple Certified instructor. Video should be brought in a MiniDV or HDV format or as already captured files on a hard drive. At the end of this two-day workshop, you will have added video to your Website.
6. Sound on the Web
(One Day)
Learn how to create, edit and upload audio for Web podcasting, video and photo slideshows using SoundTrack Pro. You will learn how to use audio filters and mixing to produce more professional level sound for your Web site and video projects. At the end of this interactive workshop, you will have added sound elements to your Website.
Each workshop session will begin at 8 a.m. and conclude at 9 p.m., with breaks for lunch and dinner.
